Lightning bugs a/k/a fireflies produce bioluminescence amid a bucolic setting near Asheville, North Carolina.
2021 has already solidified its position as the best year for bioluminescence thus far in my life. I assumed like most of the natural world, its best years were behind us. But what a pleasant surprise to find these special friends thriving this year. This image is a combination of one hundred and thirty exposures, representing about ten minutes of light on July 5th, 2021. I hope it lends you some of the same wonder and excitement the experience provided for me.
