Description
The sun setting highlights the silhouettes of balsam pine trees on the Great Balsam Mountains of Western North Carolina. Winter can provide some pretty drab scenery in this region, with the dormancy of the vast, leafless deciduous forests. I am one of the many people who actually enjoy the trees’ beauty in winter, and might sometimes even prefer it to a summer tree covered in green leaves. But I might still view the drab, barren winter landscape as a problem in need of a solution for photographic purposes, and two of those solutions are 1) look for shots that accentuate the more brilliant colors of winter sunsets and sunrises, and 2) to highlight the evergreens in the region. I would say this shot exemplifies both approaches.
