Some of the best color I have ever seen in the mountains of Western North Carolina (which is saying a lot)
If you get some severe weather that is set to clear up before sunset, go and watch sunset if you can. Because that’s what happened here, and while the wind was still what I would call “severe” for the entire time I was on the mountain on this evening, the sunset was also among the most spectacular I have witnessed. Something about precipitation clearing the air beforehand creates conditions that are good for color. The wind also made getting this photo difficult, with a majority of my images lost to motion blur, but thanks to my pretty substantial experience photographing landscapes in rough weather I was able to get a few good ones, too.
