Description
Blue ghosts are native and unique to Western North Carolina. They are a bit shy, and a bit tricky to find. One of the unique things about them is the glow. During mating season the males take flight and emit this light continuously for about a minute at a time, searching the ground below for females. Spending time with them is very much like visiting an enchanted forest. Unfortunately I can not share the location depicted in this image, because they are fragile and shy and need to be protected. A search engine can point you to some guided tours however, in the latter half of May and first week of June near Asheville, NC.
