A severe geomagnetic storm brought what may be a once-in-a-lifetime event to the region. And thanks to social media we found out in time to make our way to the Blue Ridge Parkway and experience this phenomenon ourselves. To the naked eye it was faint, but thankfully the modern camera sensor was able to capture the magic. The beauty of the night sky is something I always enjoy, but this unique moment in time where the aurora made it all the way down to our home area and the Blue Ridge Mountains is too amazing, too awe-inspiring for words.
